Ethno Cyprus 2018

“After the success of previous “Ethno Cyprus” traditional music camps held in 2005, 2006, 2008, 2010, 2013 and 2016 this year Euro-Arab Youth Music Center presented “Ethno Cyprus 2018” which was held in Limassol, between July 1st and July 10th 2018. The project was realized in partnership with Cultural Movement of Limassol EPILOGI, JM International, Arab Academy of Music of the League of Arab States, JM Croatia and Belgium, Limassol Schools Board and Cyprus University of Technology. “Ethno Cyprus 2018” is part of the European Year of Cultural Heritage 2018.

This year, 35 young virtuosos of traditional instruments from European (Belgium, Croatia, Cyprus) and Arab countries (Jordan, Lebanon), met to explore their common cultural identity. During very challenging times in the Mediterranean region, programs like “Ethno Cyprus” aim to promote Cyprus as a cultural and educational center of the area, by bringing together young people form different countries, who will engage in a multicultural dialect. Cultural activities contribute to economic growth and social cohesion, so “Ethno Cyprus” aspires to support the creativity and mobility of young musicians, who will become ambassadors of positive changes in their communities. Teaching each other for 10 days through music workshops, they will create a concert program combining creatively the music sounds of the Mediterranean. The artistic leader was Mr. Andreas Christodoulou.

The final concert was held on July 10h at 21:00 at Heroes Square, Limassol in collaboration with Rialto Theatre and will mark the beginning of Cyprus Rialto World Music Festival.”
